Upgrading components in the Dell Studio 15 laptop is very easy compared to previous generation's laptops. If you are unsatisfied with the current performance of your laptop then it might be time to upgrade.

The laptop takes the current standard memory sticks which are DDR2 667mhz. Dell states that they can handle a maximum of 2gb in each slot, however this can be debatable with users successfully installing 4gb modules. Of course, to utilize 4gb or more of ram, you must use a 64bit operating system. Dell can send you the disks if you call and ask for them.

To change the ram, shut the laptop off, flip the laptop over and remove the battery as well as AC power adaptor.  Then on the bottom you will notice one very large plastic door wtih seven screws on it. Unscrew all of these.

Note: the screws will not physically remove themselves as they are held in with protectors so you will not lose them. Just unscrew them until you can feel that they are free.

Once you unscrew all of the screws lift the cover off from the front to the back. There are tabs on the back and small tabs on the sides.

You will notice that you have easy access to all the components of the laptop here: hard drive, RAM, wireless card, bluetooth card, WWAN / Flash, processor, and fan.

To remove the ram, press the silver tabs outward that are on either side of the ram sticks. This should pop the stick up at a 45* angle. Then just slide the stick out at that same angle. You can put in your new memory in this same fashion by sliding it in angled and pressing it down until it clicks.

That is all there is to upgrading your Studio 15 laptop's ram!
